Nigeria Values Longstanding Friendship with São Tomé, Says Minister Matawalle at São Tomé’s Presidential Inauguration. Nigeria values the longstanding friendship between the two countries and looks forward to deepening cooperation with São Tomé and Príncipe in the areas of maritime security, the Nigeria-São Tomé and Príncipe Joint Development Zone (JDZ), trade and investment, as well as other areas of mutual interest, according to the Honourable Minister of State for Defence, Dr. Bello Matawalle, MON.The Honourable Minister, Dr. Bello Matawalle, MON, made the assertion on behalf of His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, at the Presidential Inauguration of President Carlos Manuel Vila Nova for his second five-year term in office, held today in São Tomé City.Carlos Manuel Vila Nova was re-elected President of São Tomé and Príncipe with 55.88% of the votes in the first round of the presidential election held on 19 July.Minister Matawalle arrived at Nuno Xavier Dias International Airport, São Tomé, in the early hours of Wednesday evening to attend the formal inauguration on behalf of the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR.The event, which was held at the country’s Parliament Building, was attended by several African and European leaders and other dignitaries. In addition to Minister Bello Matawalle, who represented President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, other leaders who graced the swearing-in ceremony included the President of the Republic of Congo, His Excellency, President Denis Sassou Nguesso, the President of the Gabonese Republic, His Excellency, President Brice Oligui Nguema, the Prime Minister of Mozambique, Mrs. Maria Benvinda Levy, the representative of the Angolan Head of State and Angola’s Foreign Minister, Téte António, and the Prime Minister of Morocco, Aziz Akhannouch, among other dignitaries.The inauguration was also witnessed by the Prime Minister of Portugal, Luís Montenegro, former Presidents of São Tomé and Príncipe, and the Prime Minister of São Tomé and Príncipe, Mr. Américo Ramos.In a congratulatory letter presented to President Carlos Manuel Vila Nova on behalf of the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu stated: “Your Excellency, On behalf of the Government and people of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, I warmly congratulate you on your re-election as the President of the Democratic Republic of São Tomé and Príncipe.”“Your victory reflects the confidence of the people in your leadership. Nigeria commends the Government, the National Electoral Commission, Political Parties, and the people of São Tomé and Príncipe for conducting a peaceful, credible, and transparent election, which will further strengthen the democratic institutions in your country.”“Nigeria values the longstanding friendship between our two countries. I therefore look forward to deepening cooperation in maritime security, the Nigeria-São Tomé and Príncipe (JDZ), trade and investment, and other areas of mutual interest.”“Please accept, Your Excellency and Dear Brother, the assurances of my highest consideration.”HM Matawalle’s participation in the ceremony reflects the historic ties of friendship, fraternity, solidarity, and cooperation that have continued to define relations between Nigeria and São Tomé and Príncipe.While felicitating President Carlos Manuel Vila Nova on his re-election and inauguration for a second term, HM Matawalle expressed Nigeria’s readiness to re-establish and strengthen closer ties with the island country and to further advance mutual and beneficial cooperation between the two countries.

His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Zamfara State Hon. (Dr.) Bello Muhammad (Matawallen Maradun) is on a courtesy call to Ghana where he met with Ghanaian Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia. Issues of mutual
interest were discussed.

He also visited Kumasi for the International Hausa Day Arts and Culture exhibition known as HAUSAFEST where he was the special GUEST OF HONOUR and turbaned as the Fagacin Zango, Kumasi, Ghana

2027: Matawalle urges prayers for peace


The Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle, has urged Muslims in Nigeria to use the Maulud period to pray for peace ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle, has unveiled a grassroots mobilisation movement, “Tinubu Again” to campaign for the re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the 2027 presidential election.Matawalle said the movement would take the campaign to the grassroots through door-to-door mobilisation, with the aim of persuading Nigerians to support Tinubu and other All Progressives Congress (APC) candidates in the 2027 elections.
